Public hearings are scheduled for this week and next on a request by the Wayne County Engineer’s Office to implement a $5 license plate fee to fund road repairs. The hearings will occur immediately following the Wayne County Commissioners’ regular 9am sessions this Wednesday and next Wednesday. Both meetings will be held at the Wayne County Administration Building. The proposed tax would reportedly generate around $700,000 each year. The funds would be used to address the county’s roads that are currently in poor condition. If approved, the $5 fee will be assessed on all vehicles registered in Wayne County, including commercial and fleet vehicles. The fee would be collected annually during vehicle registration and take effect July 1st of next year.
