A pair of newly completed sections of the Heartland Trail were recently opened, adding nearly 3 miles to Wayne County’s trail network.  Rails to Trails of Wayne County marked the completion of a 1.7-mile section from Allen Avenue to Forrer Road in Orrville and a 1.1-mile section extending from the Marshallville solar field to Coal Bank Road with a ceremony that coincided with the organization’s 30th anniversary.  The Heartland Trail is part of both the Ohio to Erie Trail and the developing Great American Rail-Trail, a planned cross-country route stretching more than 3,700 miles between Washington, D.C. and Washington state.
