Two Ohio lawmakers have introduced a bill featuring Philip Wigal’s Law, which would increase penalties for drivers who violate the state’s Move Over law. The law is named in honor of Town and Country Firefighter Philip Wigal, who was struck and killed by a semi while responding to a crash on I-71 near West Salem in April of 2022. Current penalties for violating the state’s Move Over law are a $300 fine, but the proposed bill would increase fines for subsequent violations and violations resulting in injury or death. The bill was introduced last Friday by Republican State Representatives Meredith Craig, of Smithville, and Melanie Miller, of Ashland. The bill is currently awaiting a number and committee assignment.
