The Wayne County Health Department has received word from the Ohio Department of Health that its WIC program will continue operating this month despite the federal government shutdown. Wayne County Health Commissioner Nick Cascarelli says that for November, there will be no changes to the program. He encourages people who are on the program to use the benefits and continue to make appointments to receive those benefits. The Wayne County WIC program serves more than 1,000 mothers, pregnant women and children each month, providing access to nutritious food, breastfeeding support, infant formula, nutrition education and healthcare referrals.
