The Wooster-Wayne Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will host an event this Tuesday at the Orrville Public Library.  The program will highlight the achievements of two women from Wayne County, Patricia Purdy and Dr. Maria Sexton.  Purdy, a retired colonel in the United States Air Force Nurse Corps, had a distinguished career before retiring in 1993.  During her service, Purdy worked as a surgical nurse during the Vietnam War and played a role in planning and coordinating the release of American hostages from Iran in 1981.  Sexton, the first Wayne County resident to be inducted into the Ohio Women’s Hall of Fame, emerged as a leader in the 1950s and 1960s who challenged the notion that girls and women should not participate in high-level sports in schools and colleges.  Tuesday’s event will begin at 6:30pm and is open to the public.
