Ohio deer hunters this week had their best opening day of gun season in 12 years. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, hunters across the Buckeye State checked 26,667 white-tailed deer on Monday, the first day of the weeklong gun season. It was the most deer harvested on an opening day of gun season since 2012 when more than 29,000 deer were collected. Last year, 19,000 Ohio deer were shot during the first day of gun season. Ohio’s 7-day gun season is open until Sunday.
