The Fairless Board of Education celebrated and recognized Cindy Class and Nate Held, who are retiring from the school district, at its meeting on Nov. 19. Class has served as middle school principal since 2017 and retired on July 31, 2024. She has accepted a position with the Stark County Educational Service Center. Dan Nero is the current middle school principal. Held has served as the athletic director since 2019, and will retire in December 2024. Zach Michael has been hired as the new athletic director. Superintendent Michael Hearn said 25 meetings have been planned to inform the community about the 4.5 mill, 10-year substitute levy that failed to pass on Nov. 5. The levy is a combination of levies originally passed in 1993 and renewed in 2015. Hearn said, “The substitute levy failed 55% to 45%. Many did not understand a substitute levy, so we need to inform the residents it will not increase property taxes.”
