A nearly one hundred year-old bridge in Apple Creek is getting an upgrade. A steel truss bridge on Bank Street will be replaced with a modern composite concrete box-beam bridge.  County officials say the current bridge, which dates back to the 1920s, has weight restrictions that limit the types of vehicles that can safely cross it.  Since the existing truss bridge is considered historic, the engineer’s office must carefully dismantle and label its components before transporting them to a Rails to Trails Wayne County storage facility.  The new bridge will be 30 feet wide and include five-foot bike lanes on both sides.  Construction is expected to begin sometime this summer and take roughly four months to complete.
